  • Question 11: If a bus station is where a bus stops, and a train station is where a train stops, why do I have a work station on my desk?

Update: Wow it has been ages since my last update on this site.  I am sorry to say but I gave into the myspace craze on got me a site.  If you too have given in you can check it out at http://www.myspace.com/controlled_chaosx2.  Well besides myspace things are going great.  We had our first new summer ministry called W.O.W. which stands for Wild On Wednesdays.  It is for both middle and high school students and for our first night we had 42 people!  It was amazing.  We had a progressive dinner.  So things are really going great with the youth ministry.  Also I am sure most of you know but Katie is still searching for a job, so please pray for her that she will be able to find one quickly.

Just A Thought: I was watching the animal planet the other day and I saw this series on Lions.  It was very interesting to watch because it made the point that lions never go after the biggest prey (in this case was a zebra).  It always goes after the young, sick, or weak.  It goes after the prey it knows it has the highest chance of catching it.  And when I saw this program I thought of a very interesting verse.

“Be careful!  Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy.  He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour.  Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith, Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.”  1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT)

When I read this I thought of two things that these verses show.  First, Peter used the illustration that the devil is like a lion, and after seeing that animal planet show I saw it is one of the best descriptions you could have for the devil.  Why?  Because the lion never goes after the strong only the weak.  Because as Christians God’s strength is the source of our strength.  Which means the devil cannot defeat us when we are Christians who have a strong faith.  But we are weak the further we go away from God and the less we trust in Him.  The more we try to rely on ourselves the weaker our faith is and therefore the weaker we are.  The devil never goes after the truly strong Christians but only the Christians who think they are strong but really are weak.   In this verse it says “Watch out” in order to do that we need to know the devils tactics, here is some of the tactics I thought of:

Ø     To affect our self-esteem  “You’re not pretty enough”  “You’re not loved” “You’re not desired”  “You are completely alone” with these things he weakens us, preparing us for his attack.

Ø     Making us doubt ourselves and God.

Ø     Affecting our priorities all he has to do is change God from number 1 to number 2 in your life and you’re ripe for the picking.

Ø     And last but not least, taking you out of reality.  What does that mean?  God created us and the world we are living in.  If we drink enough alcohol where we are no longer in reality (buzzed or drunk) then we can no longer stand and resist the devil, meaning we are weak.  It also means we are no longer trusting in God but ourselves, and with all the drunk driving accidents that happens in this country how do you think that’s going?  Under no circumstances is it ok to regularly drink where you can no longer control yourself.  If you drink so much that you get buzzed or drunk every time there is usually a hole in your life that you are trying to fill or trying to avoid.  There is an issue you’re not dealing with.  Only God can fulfill you enough where you can be completely satisfied.

When you’re spiritually weak, you’re in grave danger.

And that brings me to the second thing that these verse show.   No one can be strong all the time, not even Billy Graham.  So what do we do when we become weak, when we have times of doubt?  In the animal planet program it showed some water buffalos rallying around their young and weak.  What they would do was put the ones that can’t defend themselves in the middle and all the strong ones form a circle around the outside.  This worked every time!  So let me ask you, if you are weak now are you alone?  Maybe you surrounding yourself with other weak people?  Because misery loves company.  Or are you surrounding yourself with the type of people that can protect you?  Are you surrounding yourself with Believers that are strong enough to resist the devil?  So many people don’t realize is that is one of the main reasons why the church exists, to protect those that need protecting.  We can’t always be strong every minute of everyday but if we surround ourselves with others that are also strong in their faith, we can be protected always.  The devil can never defeat a person who is strong or never alone in their faith.

  • Question 10: If the weather man says “There’s a 50% chance of rain” doesn’t that mean he has no idea of its going to rain or not?

Update: Well I finally found sometime to write a post.  Things are going well with the youth group.  We are now seeing about 30 youth showing up every Sunday night.  God has really blessed this ministry in South Dakota.  Another thing is I really love winters here, you would think that it would be freezing but really it usually warmer than Iowa or IL.  Wedding plans are picking up and we will have everything nailed down soon, more info on that later.

    Just A Thought:

I may be wrong at with this thought but I feel it needs to be said.  As Christians why don’t we stand up for each other?  Why are we so divided in the way we worship, how our church is structured, or what we focus on?  So many people I know say one denomination is completely wrong while “my denomination is Biblical”.  By who’s standards, who’s authority?  This is the stupidest thing I hear but I hear it all the time!  I believe this country is getting more secular, more away from God, and more lost because of the Christians that are in it.  As Christians we know the truth, we have all the rules, and all the knowledge we ever need to live found in the Bible.  So why don’t we share this knowledge with other both saved and lost.  We hold our church’s laws and rules just as high if not higher than the Bible.

Maybe that is why we fight each other instead of fighting the real enemy.  Don’t we see it?  The evil one is laughing at us, we are so wrapped up in our own denominations that we miss sight in the fact that we are all represented as one group.  Non-Christians don’t really care if we are Methodist or Baptist or anything else?  They figured you see one Christian you see them all.  That is why as Christians we have such a terrible image and that is even why people are now using the government to stop Christianity.  They attack even the simplest form of religion.  (Examples: prayer before football games, intelligent design in our classrooms, or “under God” being taken out of our pledge of allegiance).

We divide our churches like we divide our races.  Why do people think it is wrong to say a slang word describing a different race but when they say “Oh, they must be catholic” or “Yeah, that sounds like a Baptist” everything is fine.  It’s wrong to have a racial prejudice but perfectly fine to assume something about a different church denomination when they don’t know all the facts.  Some people might say I am making a pretty big jump from race to denomination by why not.  Isn’t having a denomination just another way to divide and categorize us?  We are called a racist when we prejudge or assume something about a different race when we don’t know all the facts, don’t we do that about our church’s denominations?

What I am about to propose is almost impossible because as humans we must categorize, and we must divide.  Because we must feel independent. I mean we can’t all be the same can we?  Well as Christians we are all different but we are all connected just the same.  We have all realized the truth and felt the love of Christ and made a commitment to Him because of that no-strings-attached love?  Doesn’t that bring more power to the phrase “brothers and sisters”?  We all came to Christ in a different way but we all the same in the fact that we CAME to Christ.  He should be the reason why we should unify.  We should allow our sin to be bigger than His love.

What I am proposing is unity.  Definition: ” The state or quality of being one; singleness.  A combination or union thus formed.”  The true sense of the word.  Does it matter if we have services on Saturday nights or Sunday mornings, no.  What matters is what are we doing with the lost in this world?  Are we working together to save all of man kind or is this a competition of whom can win the most?  Yes certain denominations have unbiblical practices but don’t you think if we were more unified we would have less unbiblical ideas coming into reality?  A lot of times people form new denominations because they don’t like what their old denomination is doing.  That’s not unity, but being on the brink of chaos.  No wonder non-Christians don’t want anything to do with us; we don’t want anything to do with each other.

Just the tip of the iceberg…
